The Great Childcare Reset
One post. One person. One furious idea. Now, a national call to action.
It started with rage. Now let’s make it a revolution.
What began as a frustrated LinkedIn post – written in the heat of anger at a broken system – is growing into something bigger.
Why? Because the more we dug, the more we saw. And the more we saw, the more we felt compelled to do. We’re tired of reading another strategy. We’re tired of the same old soundbites. We’re tired of waiting.
We want change. Real change. Built from the ground up – not typed in a PDF and buried on a .gov site.
This is The Great Childcare Reset: a live, working mission to transform the early years sector for our children, and their children after them. We’re not just talking about reform. We’re trying to build it. Scrappily. Boldly. Now.
PART 1: THE PLAN
Big ideas. Bold strategy. Built from the ground up.
View The Great Childcare Reset (our working manifesto!)
We’ve mapped out five game-changing interventions to reset the childcare system – not tweak it. Each one is a building block toward a sector that’s sustainable, inclusive, and future-proof.
They're not just concepts. They’re strategised, costed in principle, and modelled with real-world delivery in mind. But here’s the truth: they still need pressure testing. This isn’t final. It’s live. It’s growing. And it needs you.
Here’s a summary of the plan so far:
The National Childcare Corps
A paid, two-year national service programme to recruit and train 20,000 brilliant early years professionals – blending fast-track qualifications, rotation placements, and long-term workforce development.
S.O.S. – Save Our Settings Fund
A sector-led financial lifeline for nurseries on the brink. Fast access to cash flow support, growth capital, or SEND investment – matched with turnaround advisors, not just red tape.
Family & SEND Hubs
We repurpose the government’s 300-school-nursery plan into something better: proper wraparound hubs that support parenting, child development, and inclusion – with PVI providers as core partners.
The Innovation Fund
A sector-wide R&D engine that funds the stuff nobody else will. From new staffing models to AI learning tools – early years finally gets its own sandbox to test, learn, and scale what works.
Universal Childcare Infrastructure
A digital-first overhaul of the funding mess. A smart account to track entitlements and payments, plus a long-term savings “Childcare Pot” to help families plan for care before babies even arrive.
We’ve built the bones – initial costings, operational frameworks, and projected social returns. But we’re not pretending this is polished.
We need the sector, the economists, the funders, the parents, the doers to come test it. Break it. Improve it. Because the more we test, the more we learn. And the more we learn, the better we can build.
Got something to say? Say it. Got experience to share? Bring it. Got questions? We need them.
PART 2: THE PILOT PUSH
We haven’t built it (yet). But we’re trying to. And the more we try, the closer we get.
View our Pilot Site Proposal
We’ve identified a first site: a council building in Hackney, sitting empty since COVID. It could become a vibrant family hub serving every age and every need. Think:
Flexible nursery
Home of the First Pilot Childcare Corp
SEND and mental health services
Parent coworking and upskilling
Youth space, intergenerational café, eco learning
But we’re not just dreaming – we’re actively seeking partners, funders, and councils who want to turn ambition into action. Every conversation counts. Every YES helps us get one step closer to breaking ground.
PART 3: THE BUSINESS CASE
What it costs. What it returns. Who we need.
We’re building a full strategic business case:
Operational feasibility
Location modelling
Social value projections using TOMs
5-year rollout plan
We’ve got the vision. We’ve got the numbers. But I’m still just one person, shouting into the void.
Let’s change that. (Full Strategic Business Case coming soon… sign up below for updates)
A MESSAGE FROM ME
“I didn’t intend to start anything with this. I just want things to change.
But the truth is, sitting behind research papers isn’t going to save the sector.
So I’m here. Boots on the ground. Ready to rally, test, build, iterate, and pioneer.
I’ve mapped the plan. Now I need the people.
If you believe in building a sector that works for every family – not just the few – get involved.”
